| › Charles de Gaulle Airport Description |
Named after founder of the French Fifth Republic, Charles de Gaulle Airport is France’s main international airport and one of the world’s main aviation centres. It is situated in the Paris area, across several communes (including Roissy), 25 km north-east of Paris.
In 2007, the airport surpassed Frankfurt and Madrid in landings and take-offs and became the number one airport in Europe in terms of aircraft movements. This holds also for cargo traffic, where the airport was also above Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and London’s Heathrow.
Management of the airport is solely under the authority of Aéroports de Paris, which also manages Orly Airport, Le Bourget Airport, and several smaller airports in the suburbs of Paris.
