The primary airport serving the city of Melbourne, Melbourne Airport is Australia’s second busiest airgate. It opened in 1970 to replace Eassedon Airport and remains the sole international airport of the four which serve Melbourne.
The airport offers flights to all states and territories in Australia and to many destinations in Oceania, Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. The hub for Qantas and Virgin Blue, Melbourne is the busiest airport in terms of international export freight and second busiest for import freight. Domestically, it handles more freight than any other airport in Australia.
